KHAJURAHO….. The Ultimate Poetry of Stone and Chisels.

Sitting on the lush green lawn looking at the magnificent Kandariya Mahadev Temple, Pained I wonder… Why such an architectural splendor and artistic expressions, beautiful to the core and full of life monuments are notoriously marketed as some sort of full of erotic obscene figurines.

Tragedy of Khajuraho…
Misconception of Khajuraho is that its largely understood to be explicitly Temples of Kamasutra sculptures which it is not. It is awe inspiring extravagant masterpiece of craftsmanship with message of Hindu philosophy “The way of life” with some sensuous carvings and sculptures. The exemplary intricate stone carving and its heavenly graceful beauty leaves you awestruck and mesmerized.
Our perception of beauty is so distorted over powered by lust and desire that we tend to ignore the soul behind the physical body and it has ruined the whole concept of beauty.
Khajuraho is with just 3 to 5 percent of erotic sculptures and is not only about sex sculptures as propagated but a beautiful story full of life without any inhibition. It is such beautiful world of stunning beauties and hidden gem of an architectural marvel blended with mesmerizing and awe inspiring extravagant masterpiece of sensuous carvings and sculptures.

Most Khajuraho temples were built between 950 and 1050 by the Chandela dynasty.
Khajuraho known earlier as Kharjuravahaka, which means scorpion bearer, an symbolic name of Lord Shiv. The exquisite sculptures and enchanting beauty of this sand stone temple takes your breath away…

A Photolouge….. of a fluidity in rigidity so personified.

Before we begin and move further to our photo journey, lets bow to the true and Real Heros, THE UNKNOWN SCULPTORS of the exemplary intricate stone carving and its heavenly graceful beauty which leaves you awestruck and mesmerized.

Surasundari, symbolising enchanting beauty, emerged from the churning of the cosmic ocean. These graceful nymphs portray human emotions. Sensuous women are an integral part of temple architecture and the railings of stupas. There are a number of forms that the Surasundari can take. Thus we have Darpani holding a mirror, Torana leaning on the door, Dalamalika touching a branch, Padmagandha smelling a lotus, Ketakibharana wearing a ketaki flower, Matrika like a mother, Chamari holding a fly whisk, Nartaki or dancer, Shukasarika playing with a parrot, Nupurapadika tying ankle bells, Mardala or drummer, Alasyakanya or the indolent one and Shubhagamini removing a thorn. You see them dancing, painting, holding a parrot, caressing a baby or scratching their backs or just undressing.

Dedicated to Shiva, the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is considered to be the most impressive and refined in the Khajuraho complex of temples. With over 900 sculptures carved into sandstone stacked without mortar the Kandariya temple is a fine example of the craftsmanship of the medeival times.
Vidhyadhara celebrated his success over Mahmud Gazani and other rulers by building the Kaṇḍāriyā Mahādeva Temple.

Khajuraho at Night in fascinating light & sound spectacle ….. as Amitabh Bacchan through his mountainous voice in background evokes the life and times of the great Chandela Kings and traces the story of the unique temples from the 10th Century to the present day and you become part of those historical days. Experience the grandeur and splendor of Chandela king’s story, learn about the 10th Century to the present day during the 50-minute show in English.

….after my trip to Khajuraho, I have realized one thing with so much of clarity, unless and until we don’t get aligned and absorb with our inner self, awaken our inner guru “SHIV” what we see or read or hear, …. all that we do is just hogwash.

I belong to the rocks…. Yes, that’s where I find solace, out of this chaotic world in the soundlessness of rocks I find meaning of life.
In full of absolute nothingness and quietness in the air, I find me and the god within.
